Why does my BAT210 NESS Alarm System Battery need a 12v backup battery?
Your alarm system is basically designed to detect intrusion or break and enter. In the event of a power outage or the mains power is cut to the premise, the backup battery kicks in to keep the alarm system running. When power is restored the battery is then recharged back up to the required levels and the alarm system switches back to mains power automatically.
Why is the Alarm system keypad battery icon flashing?
The indicator on the keypad is flashing to tell the user the on-board battery tester has identified the backup battery has low voltage or fault and is not responding to a charge. This means the backup battery requires replacement and the replacement is usually done by a KELRYAN qualified and licensed security technician.

Your alarm system backup battery will usually need replacing anywhere between 3-5 years on average. How long your alarm system battery lasts can depend on your alarm systems environment. Things that can influence the life of your back up battery include, the number of blackouts, or the reliability of mains power supplied your suburb. New suburbs can experience short battery life, as low as 2 years, due to power upgrades within a new subdivision. Whereas older suburbs with a more stable power supply are known to have backup batteries that have lasted up to 8 years. It is important to note that your alarm backup battery is a standard consumable required by your alarm system, and will require replacement at some stage of its life just like your car battery.
